INJURY REHABILITATION

As a graduate sport rehabilitator the main area of expertise is the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injury with the aim of regaining normal pain free movement at varying levels.   We understand that each individual will have very different goals from returning to normal activities of daily living to competing at the highest levels in a chosen sport.  This is why our goal is to work with you to provide an individual approach to support your needs.

On completion of an assessment we will carefully consider the best treatment options and prescribe the most appropriate scientifically based exercise program from day one of your injury for you to begin independently or in a functional training environment. The option of the blocks of treatment also provide an opportunity to continue working together to achieve your goal of optimal recovery in the quickest time possible providing the confidence of a safe return to sport, preventing further or re-injury.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sarah offers a deep tissue sports massage with a variety of techniques designed to help injury and reduce tension with the application of a treatment oil which may include the use of:

THERAGUN: A handheld percussive massage device which has been found to reduce pain and delayed onset muscles soreness and is a more effective method of increasing range of motion post injury compared to foam rolling (Martin, 2021).

CUPPING: Using silicone cups to promote blood circulation and improve immunity. Cupping therapy has reported benefits for localized pain such as lower back, knee and neck, shoulder and headache as well as systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes (Aboushanab & Alsanad, 2018).

INSTRUMENT ASSISTED: Provides a deeper tissue penetration to break down restrictions and scar tissue to improve range of movement and reduce pain (Kim et al., 2017).

KTAPING* Improves lymphatic drainage and promotes blood flow enchancing healing and reducing pain (Bassett et al., 2010).

PILATES

Joseph Pilates designed an exercise program to overcome numerous health issues he suffered with and after his own successful rehabilitation outcome developed his program to rehabilitate military personnel during the 1st World War. Years later after moving to New York he opened his own fitness studio where he used these techniques to prevent injury and rehabilitate predominantly ballet dancers and athletes. His concept to connect the mind, body and movement is used worldwide today with more and more athletes turning to Pilates to improve their sport.

With constant research being conducted on Pilates it has been evidenced to improve flexibility, strength, balance and core stability required in all sport and walks of life as well as reduce pain, anxiety and depression and improve overall well being (Fleming et al., 2020)
